WRC’s Craig Melvin Joins MNSBC As Dayside Anchor

WRC anchor Craig Melvin is joining MSNBC as a daytime anchor. Melvin joins the cable network after three years at the NBC O&O in Washington, DC, where he anchored the 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. weekend broadcasts.

Melvin will also contribute to NBC News as a reporter across all platforms. “I’m most excited about the prospect of anchoring breaking news, live events, and interviewing news makers on a daily basis,” Melvin told TVSpy in an email. “Additionally, I’ll be able to get from behind the desk from time to time and cover big stories from the front lines. I’m thrilled about the new opportunity.”

Melvin, who will be on the air at MSNBC as early as next week, said that relocating to New York City was an important part of the career move for him — his fiancee, former WRC sports anchor Lindsay Czarniak, recently joined ESPN in Bristol, which is about two hours north of New York City.

“Making the move to be near my new wife was paramount,” Melvin said. “We decided living in different cities wasn’t the best way to start a marriage. We’re both pleased things worked out the way they have for us.”

Melvin began his career at WIS in Columbia, SC. In the seven years he was at the station, he won an Emmy Award and was named “Best Anchor” by the South Carolina Broadcaster’s organization.

“We are thrilled to welcome Craig to MSNBC’s dayside team,” said MSNBC president Phil Griffin. “He’s smart, loves the business and will be a great addition to the team.”
