Spotted: Sports Guys at Sandwich Shop

Spotted at Panera Bread in Chevy Chase last evening: Channel 4 sportscaster Dan Hellie, Fox 5 sports guru Dave Feldman and a Fox sports producer chowing down on sandwiches at a storefront table.  Hellie agreed with a questioner’s assertion that Lindsay Czarniak had done a solid report from the Verizon Center…hitting the angle that the Caps’ seven-game losing skid coincides with the filming of the highly-hyped HBO “24/7 Penguins/Capitals: Road to the NHL Winter Classic” documentary, first episode of which aired last night.  Czarniak also mentioned parts of Bruce Boudreau‘s rantings would probably be R-rated.

Dan Steinberg blogged on the WaPo website (the Sports Bog) that Boudreau drops several F-bombs and uses language that would “make Rex Ryan blush.”

Has the SI jinx been replaced with the HBO jinx?  First the NY Jets, now the Caps?

NewsBabes Paint Georgetown Pink!

Just what every good cause needs… babes.

Lindsay Czarniak, Angie Goff, Pamela Brown, Laura Evans, Brianna Keilar, Alison Starling, Rebecca Cooper, Cynne Simpson, Mike Conneen and Elizabeth Manresa were just some of the NewsBabes out last night to support breast cancer research.

According to Goff’s blog, over 500 people turned out for the 2nd annual Newsbabes Bash for Breast Cancer at the Ritz-Carlton Georgetown. Susan G. Komen for the Cure founder Ambassador Nancy Brinker and DC’s First Lady Michelle Fenty co-hosted and made remarks at the event.

Also sporting pink: WTOP’s Bob Madigan, Biz Journal’s Jen Conner, On Tap Magazine’s Ashley Estill, Politico‘s Kiki Ryan, CBS’ Christine Delargy and NBC’s Luke Russert- in a cotton candy jacket and matching tie. And where there are babes, there is Andy Baldwin who would never miss such an event!

Mix 107.3 was broadcast live from the Ritz by Tommy McFly– watch him turn the mic on these news babes here.

DC Media Types and Athletes “Walk This Way” for Charity

Becky Lee brought out the big guns last night for her charity’s fashion show “Walk this Way.” Becky’s Fund is a non-profit that supports domestic violence victims.

Redskins Clinton Portis, Jason Campbell and Albert Haynesworth, as well as DC United’s Devon McTavish, modeling Eric Finn Custom Clothiers, walked a runway across the rooftop pool at the Liasion Hotel downtown. NBC4 sports anchor Lindsay Czarniak emceed the event, which felt more like a night out in LA or NY than traditional DC.

Juleanna Glover, who’s a board member of Becky’s Fund, Redskins’ Chris Cooley and his wife, WUSA’s Angie Goff, Jayne Sandman, CBS’ Kaylee Hartung, TWT‘s Liz Glover, Politico‘s Amie Parnes, among many others on the packed roof, were in attendance.

Lee started “Becky’s Fund” with prize money she earned a second-runner up on “Survivor: Cook Islands.” Learn more about “Becky’s Fund” here.

Though we missed him, we heard Ginuwine was there. We didn’t, however, miss Portis special order fried shrimp and champagne backstage.

Media Minxes Flock to Film Screening

Though many in the media were covering the death of Senator Kennedy on Wednesday evening, a few notables still made it out to a special screening of “The September Issue,” a documentary about Vogue Editor Anna Wintour.

TWT‘s Green and Glover
tell us that among the sea of skin-tight cocktail dresses and sky-high stilettos were CNN’s Jessica Yellin, Fox 5′s Will Thomas, CNN’s Michelle Jaconi and NBC4′s Lindsay Czarniak. FNC Anchor Bret Baier‘s wife, Amy attended with Susanna Quinn wearing “matching little white numbers with cleavage practically up to their chins.”

More Kastles Coverage… Season Opener Dinner

NBC4 sports anchor Czarniak at Kastles season opener dinner.

Kastles’ Oudsema and owner Ein.

The Kastles may have been working it on the court last night, but earlier this week, they relaxed and enjoyed a dinner at Teatro Goldoni in honor of their season opener.

Kastles’ Murphy Jensen, Olga Puchkova, Scott Oudsema, Rennae Stubbs and Leander Paes were all in attendance, as well as proud Kastles owner Mark Ein and NBC4 sports anchor Lindsay Czarniak.

Washingtonian Names 50 Top Journos

washingtonian top 50 FBDC.jpgIn the June issue of Washingtonian, the mag’s executive editor Garrett Graff takes his old Fishbowl fins out for a spin to write the quadrennial review of Washington’s “50 Top Journalists.”

The piece evaluates the city’s rising stars, anchors, behind-the-scenes movers and shakers and the best reporters at “explaining what news means.”

ABC’s Jake Tapper, NBC’s Chuck Todd and CBS’ Lara Logan were no surprise but the “rising stars” category was interesting. The category included WaPo’s Jonathan Capehart, Politico’s Jonathan Martin, FNC’s Chad Pergram, HuffPo’s Sam Stein, WaPo’s Anne Kornblut, NJ’s Shane Harris and WRC-TV’s Lindsay Czarniak to name just a few.

Check out the June issue of Washingtonian for the full list.

Lindsay Czarniak: Sports Fan and Actress?

Local NBC sports anchor WRC’s Lindsay Czarniak is taking a time-out from the Caps and the Redskins to break a leg on the stage.

Czarniak will perform in the 17th Annual Benefit for Community Engagement at the Crystal City Arena Stage next Monday, March 16th. She’s cast as the role of Dorothy in “Arena Stage in Oz.” More details about the show can be found here.

FBDC caught up with Lindsay on her upcoming performace and we were surprised to find this isn’t exactly her acting debut… she appeared in an independent film Aquarius, as a characted named “Mist” a few years back.

Has acting always been a passion of yours? I’ve always been interested in it. I really love theatre and acting as another form of self expression- I did a play while working as a reporter in Jacksonville at the community theatre and it was a great way to unwind a bit (if I didn’t have to miss rehearsal for breaking news). I was a studio art minor in college and like to draw and create things, so I guess that fits.

What ranks first with you- sports or the arts (theater, acting, etc)? I don’t put one in front of the other because I love them both for different reasons. Covering sports is my world on a daily basis and its a lifestyle. You can consider theatre a sort of sport in itself- I was recently taking an acting class in which we were pantomiming animals and it was physically exhausting but a ton of fun. I love sports because of the stories- because of the challenge to get people to share their triumphs, etc. and in theatre, I love the challenge of developing a character.

Do you get stage fright- at work on in a project like this? Heck yeah. I get it all the time- I get nervous before I perform on stage or even in a class and I definitely can get nervous energy before doing a liveshot or even on set, however, I feel like being nervous makes you feel alive and that’s a big part of anything you do. You have to feed off of it and channel it into positive energy.

Will your co-anchor Dan Hellie ever be joining you on the stage? I hope so. Hellie’s the kinda co-worker that makes you better- he really can handle any situation and is just fun to be able to react to in live situations. He’d be great to co-star with on stage. I can absolutely see him as a gangster in Guys and Dolls.
