WaPo’s Amy Argetsinger is Pregnant, Moving on to New, More Family Reliable Beat

And now, the memo on Amy Argetsinger leaving WaPo‘s “The Reliable Source.” In it, the big news that she’s pregnant with fiancé Bill McQuillen‘s child. She’s also moving on to a new beat that has better hours but unfortunately the memo doesn’t say what that is.

The memo:

After an eight-year stretch as one half of the Reliable Source duo,  covering Washington’s high society at night and updating readers on celebrity news in the early morning, Amy Argetsinger has decided to apply her impressive talents to a beat with a more predictable work schedule, as she and fiancé Bill McQuillen are expecting a child.

Amy started working with Roxanne Roberts in 2005, transforming The Post’s 22-year-old gossip and celebrity franchise from a print-only product into a must-read column and lively blog. The longest-serving Reliable Source columnists, Amy and Roxanne have broken some of The Post’s most captivating stories–about the uninvited state dinner guests who crashed White House security, and the state senator who funneled thousands from a charity fundraiser into his own campaign fund. They ferreted out the insider details from Chelsea Clinton’s secretive wedding; uncovered RGIII’s snub of the president’s White House Correspondents Association dinner reception; and told the world about countless breakups and hookups (Al Gore and Adrian Fenty) that the participants would have rather kept quiet. Not only have they entertained readers in Washington and beyond with their sassy take on the foibles of DC, they have been a generous and knowledgeable fount of ideas for articles and profiles that have extended Style’s reach into and understanding of the ways of Washington.

A versatile writer and formidable reporter, deeply sourced in the culture of the nation’s capital, Amy came to the Reliable Source after a decade on Metro and a year covering the West Coast as The Post’s L.A. bureau chief.

As Amy looks forward to new ventures—both personal and professional — please join us in congratulating her on a remarkable run in the Reliable Source. We’ll miss her daily insights– though some people in Washington most assuredly won’t!
