Meredith Folds ReadyMade, Cuts 75 Staffers

FishbowlNY received a tip earlier about this, and now it’s official: ReadyMade, the do-it-yourself magazine from Meredith, is folding. According to Ad Age, the magazine closure is part of cost-cutting measures at the publishing company. As with any magazine shuttering, the magazine will be missed, but the truly sad part is people losing their jobs. This move by Meredith reportedly resulted in 75 people losing employment.

Meredith CEO Steve Lacy issued the following statement:

Positioning Meredith for continued growth requires periodic realignment of resources, including how we deploy our workforce. These actions will enable us to devote additional resources to key strategic growth initiatives, including digital platform expansion.

To those who worked at ReadyMade: Good luck out there.

In this position, Wellington will lead the business and creative direction of the Parent & Child publishing program and will manage the strategic development of the Parent and Child brand.

Wellington will report to Hugh Roome, President, Consumer and Professional Publishing.

“Jeff Wellington has the right experience and a proven track record to continue the phenomenal growth trajectory of Scholastic Parent & Child magazine. We’ve had double-digit growth in each of the last five years and believe that Jeff can guide Scholastic Parent & Child to the next level of success online and in print,” Roome said.

He joins Scholastic from ReadyMade, a Meredith Corporation publication, where he served as Publisher for the past two years. There, he was responsible for the advertising sales, marketing, and brand development for the magazine and all digital applications.
