WFAN’s Mike Francesa and Kim Jones Delve into Penn State Scandal

WFAN afternoon host Mike Francesa yesterday gave special focus to the alleged child sex scandal that rocked Penn State University this week. Francesa was joined by fill-in host, and Penn State alum, Kim Jones.

Jones, a former Nittany Lions reporter, talked to Francesa from State College, to discuss the fluid situation surrounding Jerry Sandusky, a former defensive coordinator under head coach Joe Paterno.

Jones was set to cover Paterno’s weekly press conference when it was canceled. Earlier in the day, The New York Times reported that preparations were underway for Paterno to be dismissed.

The 84-year-old Paterno, a Brooklyn native, is regarded as the man who symbolizes Penn State more than any other.

Jones, full-time as a YES Network reporter, worked her sources, even driving to Joe Paterno’s home.

His son, Scott Paterno, a Republican strategist, told Jones he was aware of the Times article, but told her, “We have no knowledge of that.”

Scott also told Jones that the family is working on ”media availability for his father.”

Francesa countered, “That means he will meet the media, if he does, you would think, logic would dictate he’ll meet the media as the ex-coach.”

Paterno has been coaching at Penn State since 1950. He took over the program in 1966, notching two national championships and becoming the winningest coach in Division I FBS history, with 409 victories.
