Digital Book Downloads Skyrocket at Libraries
The media company OverDrive counted 237 million website page views by library patrons looking to download media last year, a staggering 76 percent increase from 2007.
OverDrive has partnered with 8,500 libraries around the world, allowing patrons to download audio and text materials straight to digital reading devices like the iPod, Zune, and other players. The digital catalog includes 50,000 e-books and 10,000 audio books.
Steve Potash, President and CEO of OverDrive, explained in a press release: “Millions of readers have discovered the newest library download options from OverDrive, including the addition of award-winning titles from Penguin Group, Random House, and Simon & Schuster … Libraries are now better serving their mobile and connected customers.” (Via PW)
