Charles Gibson’s Palin Interview: The Timing

GibsonSeattle_9.10.jpgAs the news nets cover the memorial services for the seventh anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, ABC’s Charlie Gibson is across the country getting ready for the first of three separate sit-down interviews with GOP VP nominee Sarah Palin.

The first interview is expected to happen before today’s deployment ceremony for Palin’s son, Track. We should expect to see the first clips around 4pmET. Portions will be included in stories on, and on ABC News Radio, but the approximately one-minute clips will be made available to all media. “Our goal is to turn the material as fast as we can,” ABC News spokesman Jeffrey Schneider tells TVNewser, adding, “There’s a real overriding public interest in hearing from Gov. Palin.”

The second sit-down is expected to take place after tonight’s World News which will air live at 2:30pmAKDT (Alaska Daylight Time). Expect those clips to appear first on Nightline tonight, then more on GMA Friday. The third interview will occur tomorrow and will air on tomorrow’s World News as well as the 20/20 special at 10pmET/PT.

As for the trip west…way west, the New York Post reports today that Gibson graciously swapped his first class seat with the wife of former NY GOP Sen. Alfonse D’Amato on their flight to Seattle, so she could sit next to her 7-month-old son and his nurse. Katuria D’Amato said to Gibson, “I hope you take it easy on her.” Gibson replied, “On her? I hope she takes it easy on me.”
