San Diego Anchor Has Cameo in ‘Nightcrawler,’ A Creepy Look at Local TV News

“Nighcrawler” is a new film starring Jake Gyllenhaal opening today.

Gyllenhaal plays a creepy overnight news stringer. Rene Russo is a news director who subscribes to the “if it bleeds it leads” philosophy.

Lisa Remillard, who anchors for San Diego independent station KUSI, is one of many local TV anchors with a cameo in the film. She told the San Diego Reader the film is interesting, but not all that accurate.

“It’s an interesting way of how others perceive it to be,” said Remillard. “When a stringer delivers video, we either use it or we don’t. It doesn’t make or break our newscast, and I have never worked in a shop where it does. Very rarely have I personally used a stringer video, particularly in the manner in which the film portrays it.”

Remillard told the Reader she wasn’t sure she’d make it in the film. “I thought for sure they would cut. Even though they were so nice, I had no hope that they were going to keep me in the movie.” Read more

Lisa Remillard Signs Off From KTNV

Morning and midday anchor Lisa Remillard said an on-air goodbye to viewers and her colleagues this morning on Las Vegas ABC affiliate KTNV.

Remillard told TVSpy, “It has been a wonderful 4.5 years in Vegas and I have loved my coworkers and the wonderful people of Las Vegas.”

“It’s been a morning of fighting back tears,” said Beth Fisher with co-anchor Casey Smith, meteorologist Mike Tsolinas and traffic reporter Micah Manalo in the final segment of the station’s 6:00 a.m. newscast. After all the anchors said their farewells, Manalo added “It’s going to be different here in the studio.” Read more

Beth Fisher Joins KNTV Morning Newscast

After taking a few years off to raise her children, Beth Fisher is returning to Las Vegas local television.

Beginning next month, Fisher will join the morning newscast on KTNV, the ABC-affiliate, alongside Lisa Remillard and Casey Smith. Fisher was previously an anchor at KSNV, the NBC-affiliate.

“My kids are school-aged now, so my husband and I felt I could return to a job I love, serving a community we love. I am grateful to be working for a company that supports and values my role as wife and mother,” Fisher said in a statement.
