In this episode of “Cubes,” we tour the headquarters of MLB Network. The impressive space, which is also home to MLB Productions, features multiple studios, a vast library of archival footage, and an indoor baseball field, complete with dugouts, stands, and a digital scoreboard. The place will be buzzing over the next few weeks as the network is set to air more than 150 hours of live coverage of the 2011 MLB postseason.

2 Years After Announcing Her Departure from WCBS, Sam Ryan Set To Join MLB Network

WCBS’s Sam Ryan, who has been with the station since 2006, announced in 2009 that she would leave to spend more time with her family. Thanks to a last-minute deal between Ryan and the CBS O&O, the sports anchor remains on the air at WCBS today — but not for long.

The New York Daily News reported today that Ryan, who splits her reporting duties between WCBS and CBS sports, has accepted a job at MLB Network as a host and reporter. Her new gig will reportedly start in September.

Ryan’s departure comes at an interesting time for sports news, particularly in New York City. WPIX, the CW affiliate in the market, eliminated their sports department as part of budget cuts at the beginning of this year; WABC, the ABC O&O, recently announced that morning sports broadcasts would be outsourced to ESPN. WNYW, which is a Fox O&O, has squeezed sports to the very end of the evening broadcasts.
