Attention all you Twitter fiends, this app might just be for you: Tweeki, a new app from SweetLabs, will give you instant access to all your Twitter needs. The app is a lightweight program that stays pinned to your taskbar, so you don’t have to waste precious seconds loading up a web app or waiting for a desktop app to start.
Tweeki is a full-featured Twitter app, but it’s one of the lightest we’ve seen.
First off, you get to see Twitter notifications right on your taskbar, rather than having to open a browser window or click over to a desktop app. This might not sound like a big deal, but it’s neat to be able to see all of your notifications next to your “Start” button (sorry Mac users, but your version isn’t quite ready yet).
If you click the Tweeki icon, a mid-sized window pops up that allows you to do everything you can do on Twitter.com and more.
The first thing I noticed was that the “What’s happening?” box is always pinned to the bottom of the interface, so you can send a tweet whenever inspiration strikes.
The main, middle area of the app is where the content appears. For instance, the screenshot above is of the Trending tab, which shows the currently trending topics, suggested accounts, and top tweets right now on Twitter.
Moving along the top bar, Tweeki also has “My Timeline”, “My Mentions”, “My Direct Messages” and saved searches. Each of these, when clicked, will pull up the related tweets in real-time.
The layout is simple and straightforward, and there is something quite aesthetically pleasing about it as well. Plus, the fact that it’s always pinned to the taskbar means never having to wonder if you’ve got a message waiting for you on Twitter.com – it’ll notify you when something new happens, the minute it happens.
All-in-all, Tweeki is a simple, sleek and well-built Twitter app. Its simplicity might make it a bit too bare for some of the most heavy Twitter users, but for newbies and anyone in the middle, it’s a great alternative to your standard web or desktop apps.
