Photo Wars: Breitbart Finds Old Carney Pic

PhotoWars_yellowIn which we find photographs on partisan news sites that run the worst possible picture of a person from the opposing party.

Breitbart News has typically been a goldmine of unflattering pictures of people on the left. For Ben Shapiro‘s recent story “Carney: Tea Party Wants Obama to ‘Resign’ to End Shutdown”, they managed to dig up an old picture of White House Press Secretary Jay Carney with a look of maybe anger and surprise on his face. We’re not really sure what Carney is doing in this picture, but we’re betting Breitbart is pretty excited they found it.

Love Him, Despise Him, There’s an Earnest Quality to Ben Shapiro’s Walk Toward the Fire

shapiroBreitbart News Editor-at-Large Ben Shapiro isn’t necessarily an angry person, but he plays one on TV, on Twitter and on a new site he’s spearheading called TruthRevolt, a new media outlet he hopes will revolutionize American media as we know it. Quick translation? The 29-year-old Editor-in-Chief wants to destroy the left, as in destroy the advertising dollars that go to what he perceives are left-wing media outlets such as ABC, NBC, CBS and others. In essence, he wants to be the right-wing version Media Matters. An Andrew Breitbart disciple in every cell of his being, he reels off quotes from his deceased mentor with ease. Thanks to some appearances on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Live,” he’s also gotten death threats and keeps a shotgun in his home. By phone, Shapiro is actually quite sweet — he even invited me to Shabbat dinner at his home when and if I’m ever in LA. It’s an offer he says he makes to any new acquaintance.

Now in the fight of his life, he took time on his hilly drive to a Fox News appearance this week to speak with me at length by phone. Amid the anger, we discovered a softer side to Shapiro that isn’t on the warpath.

Why did you decide to do this? Did the conservative gods give you the nod?

B.S.: “As far as the conservative gods, I’m not sure what conservatives gods are, but Andrew Breitbart, one of my mentors and Andrew Horowitz, who I’ve known since I was 17, were big on using whatever tactics are at our disposal to make the left live up to its own standards. When it comes to utilization of market power, to make a difference in the political debate, the right has for a long time been quite shy.”

Why is that?

B.S.: “I think that it is largely because the right sort of believes there was a quasi détente on the question of whether advertisers should be held responsible by consumers for their advertising choices. The right was wrong about that. There was no détente. Interest groups on the left have been doing what we’re talking about for years. Conservatives consumers don’t have anyone serving a similar function on the right.”

Mark Levin Calls Ana Marie Cox ‘Dumb’ After She Calls his Book ‘Boring’ and Insane

Breitbart.com‘s Editor-at-Large Ben Shapiro ran a bread and butter post today in which conservative radio personality Mark Levin calls Guardian‘s lefty writer Ana Marie Cox “as dumb as it gets.” He throws in an “anal sex aficionado” descriptor just for fun.

Morning Chatter

“You can take the sexual piece out. That is a funny story for a child.” — BuzzFeed Editor-in-Chief Ben Smith on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” discussing his interview with New York mayoral hopeful Anthony Weiner and the reaction of his kids to the story. Specifically, he was referring to taking a picture of your penis and putting it on the Internet.

Matthews predicted former Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) would be nominated in 2012. This time his money’s on Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).

Page 32 of This Town: First Mention of Tammy Haddad

We’re crawling through This Town slowly but surely. Last night we came across Leibo’s first mention of Dame Tammy Haddad. “As I walk out, I get a big hug from Tammy Haddad, a veteran cable producer who repurposed herself in recent years as a professional party host, event organizer and full-service convener of the Washington A-list. Haddad, a towering in-your-face presence with black hair bisected by a white streak, is a human ladle in the local self-celebration buffet.” She tells you how great you are, how you really need to meet the author, or cohost, or honoree, or whoever, and that by the way, she just talked to Justice Breyer!”

Reporter steals some Starbucks air conditioning

“Hanging out in a Starbucks without buying anything to escape the heat. This is the most subversive thing I’ve done in a while.” — Politico‘s Byron Tau. Which opened the floodgates for Logan Dobson, who works at The Tarrance Group, a Republican polling firm: ” I have been wracked by guilt ever since I used a Starbucks bathroom 5 months ago without making a purchase IM SO SORRY.”

Ben Shapiro On ‘Pro-abortion’ Feminists and the Men Who Love Them

Women, Breitbart.com columnist Ben Shapiro has a message for you — if a guy is only interested in you because you’re a “pro-abortion” feminist, well then that’s just… nasty.

Such men probably only exist in Shapiro’s mind—a mind that, if it’s like many of his conservative buddies, seems a little too obsessed with women’s reproductive parts. This tweet is amazing for several reasons, the least of all being it’s fantastic depth of stupidity.

Shapiro manages to not just disparage women and pro-choicers in less than 140 characters, but men at the same time, all the while blaming the women he so obviously despises for what he sees as “gross” behavior by some weird men. Because… women have control over what other men do? It’d be fascinating if it weren’t so vile.

And  #brochoice, as stupid as the name sounds, actually refers to a men’s campaign by Choice USA that began with idea that maybe other men like Shapiro don’t know everything there is to know about women’s reproductive parts, despite the aforementioned apparent obsession.

The responses to Shapiro’s tweet say it all…

(A Sprinkling of Things we Think you Ought to Know…)

CPAC’s Saddest Panel – Now that CPAC is over, Twitter will be a LOT less interesting. I think we’ll kinda miss all the pictures of weirdos wearing “Zombie Obama” face-paint, sad Presidential mascots and Newt Gingrich. One of the sadder events that was featured at CPAC was an event called, ““Stop THIS: Threats, Harassment, Intimidation, Slander & Bullying from the Obama Administration.” Catchy, right?

On the panel was Breitbart’s Ben Shapiro, who has been getting a lot of attention lately. Unfortunately for him, all that attention doesn’t translate into attendance at CPAC. Little Green Footballs snapped this shot of the panel, which looks emptier than minibar in a CPAC hotel room.

CNN’s Piers Morgan Grows ‘A Pair’

CNN’s Piers Morgan was eviscerated on his show last week by Breitbart’s Ben Shapiro. Ever since, Piers has been itching for a rematch. The former UK tabloid editor has been attempting to taunt Shapiro on Twitter since the two squared off in hopes of getting a second bite at the apple. For now, the apple is ready to be bitten tonight.

But will it really happen?

Shots Fired! Buzzfeed vs Breitbart

In the hours leading up to Monday night’s foreign policy debate, Buzzfeed’s McKay Coppins dropped a bomb of a story about the empire that Andrew Breitbart built up in the years before his death. Coppins says that infighting and power struggles are plaguing the brand. While traffic remains competitive with other conservative websites, he says, “The portrait that emerged from multiple interviews with sources at the site and in its orbit was one of a disorganized, downtrodden army of conservative foot soldiers eager to carry out their fallen leader’s mission, but deeply divided over how to interpret his battle plan.”

It’s worth pointing out that Breitbart has been at war with Buzzfeed for quite some time. Coppins makes sure we know their messy history… Read more
