WaPo’s Opposing Oscar Observations

It appears WaPo feature writer Dan Zak has an entirely different fashion sense from the publication’s official fashion writers, Holly Thomas and Janet Bennett Kelly,  who covered the Oscars last night.

Zak: “Okay, fine, a positive comment: Jennifer Lawrence looks great. And she gave the best performance in the category. #oscars @oscarspotting”

But Thomas and Kelly clearly think otherwise. @WashPostFashion: “Least fave look: Jennifer Lawrence’s red tank dress. It’s the Oscars – you should not look like you’re on Baywatch from the waist up.”

Sorry, Zak. We have to go with Thomas and Kelly on this one. The Baywatch description aptly fits.

Fashion Editor Moves to WaPo Magazine

An internal memo dispatched to staff earlier this week at WaPo reports that Post Online Fashion Editor Janet Bennett Kelly is moving over to the magazine.

The memo:

Janet Bennett Kelly is moving her flag to the Post Magazine, where she will assist  on Trend Report and the new StyleSunday column, Deals. Janet will also help with fashion week and write wedding vignettes.

Janet started her career at The Post website in 1999 as the shopping producer, and created the Fashion & Beauty section in 2002. She wrote numerous freelance stories on design for the Post’s Home section before taking over production of the section online in 2001 and starting the weekly e-mail newsletter At Home with 170,000 subscribers. From its inception in 2004 to November  2010, she was editor of D.C. Scout, the twice-weekly e-mail newsletter about local fashion and beauty events, trends and finds. She also initiated the weekly Fashion discussion, which kicked off in 2007.

The Magazine and StyleSunday are very happy to welcome Janet. She’ll begin on Dec. 6.
