Marty’d: The Chris Moody Edition

It’s been a while since we’ve checked in with Marty Rudolf, our favorite News Junkie Online. Day in and day out, Marty shares interesting stories and tries interacting with various tweeters about The News. Marty seems to have toned down his Twitter feed for the time being, by the way. I personally had a discussion with him about him tweeting pictures of naked ladies in a stunt he was referring to as “Ta-Ta Tuesdays.”

Our most recent Marty fascination comes from the relationship he has formed with Yahoo’s Chris Moody. Read more

CQRC Welcomes Tiny Pilgrim

The turkey coma has finally worn off enough to offer belated our congratulations to CQ Roll Call’s Peter King.  Peter and his wife, BNA’s Heather Rothman, celebrated the holiday by welcoming to the world Eli Wilson King at 10.29 pm on Thanksgiving Day.  The little pilgrim weighed in at nine pounds, seven ounces and measured nearly 22 inches.  Fun fact: Eli’s big sister Abigail was born the day after Christmas two years ago.  Congrats to Peter, Heather and Abigail.  And welcome to the Fishbowl, Eli!

Note to readers: The bizarre pilgrim baby photo is not actually Eli but it is representative of the way we imagine him.

Morning Viewing: Gavin Gets Pummeled by Rep. Peter King

Politico‘s Patrick Gavin hits the boxing ring for a friendly match with Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) who says that he is beating down “because Patrick is a symbol of the arrogant, left-wing media.” Good times.

Help Wanted: Nutting’s Job Jinxed?

A tipster sent us this CQ “help wanted” description for the position held by Brian Nutting who was terminated by CQ-Roll Call‘s Mike Mills and Laurie Battaglia. Nutting, a 27-year CQ vet got the axe after sending an email to the entire newsroom demanding “answers” after the Economist-owned organization slashed 44 editorial positions late last month.

LEGISLATIVE ACTION EDITOR: CQ’s newsroom is seeking a full-time editor for its Legislative Action team to edit news stories and descriptions of votes for CQ.com and CQ print publications, as well as longer analytical pieces for House Action Reports and BillAnalysis. The job also requires helping to train reporters on CQ’s methods and quality standards, as well as how to write for different CQ-Roll Call Group publications. In addition to demonstrated experience in news editing and writing, candidates should have familiarity with Congress and legislative procedure. Frequent evening work required. Contact Peter King.

According to Michael Calderone, silly Mills offered Nutting’s gig to Jodi Schneider, who he had canned just five days earlier. Schneider passed on the masochistic opportunity.

Who will take this jinxed job? In this economy and industry, we’re surprised it’s still unfilled. But then again, the cast of Alive didn’t eat their teammates on the day their plane crashed.

  • Big Changes At CQ

From an email sent to CQ staffers from Editor Mike Riley:

During the past half decade, Congressional Quarterly’s news operation has grown significantly as we’ve expanded our journalistic ambitions and moved boldly into the online world. This transformation has brought rapid growth and a host of changes and additions to our enterprise, and it’s time to evaluate the organization we’ve created and to ask whether there is a better way to help us achieve our goals of practicing journalistic excellence, making CQ a great place to work, and attracting, retaining and developing talented staffers.
