Cover Battle

Cover Battle: Sports Illustrated Wins

Welcome back to another edition of FishbowlNY’s weekly Cover Battle. Typically, we ask you to choose which magazine covers you like best, but this week we’re doing this differently.

The above is Sports Illustrated’s Boston Strong cover, which included about  3,000 Boston residents. When we learned that SI was asking the city’s residents to show up at the Boston Marathon finish line for a cover shoot, we figured it’d be a good one. It is, and that’s why we’re crowning SI this week’s champ.

Cover Battle: Scene or Vanity Fair

Welcome back to another edition of FishbowlNY’s weekly Cover Battle. This round features Scene versus Vanity Fair. Scene went all in with Joe Jonas because apparently it’s still 2008.

Cover Battle: Complex or Businessweek

Welcome back to another edition of FishbowlNY’s weekly Cover Battle. This round features Complex taking on Businessweek. Complex features the beautiful and talented Jhené Aiko floating in a pool. This photo, combined with the fact that it somehow will not snow today, makes us happy. Please note, it still might snow today.

Cover Battle: WSJ. or Wired

Welcome back to another edition of FishbowlNY’s weekly Cover Battle. This round features WSJ. taking on Wired. For its latest issue, WSJ. went with a simplistic photo of Scarlett Johansson staring at the camera. If you ever meet Johansson, please note that she will not appreciate you reciprocating this gaze.

Cover Battle: The New Yorker or Allure

Welcome back to another edition of FishbowlNY’s weekly Cover Battle. This round features The New Yorker taking on Allure. We chose The New Yorker because it reminds us of spring, a time when it (supposedly) doesn’t snow every single f*cking day and the sun (allegedly) shines.

Cover Battle: Sports Illustrated or Variety

Welcome back to another edition of FishbowlNY’s weekly Cover Battle. This round features Sports Illustrated versus Variety. For its latest cover, SI went retro. As we noted yesterday, the image was inspired by a 1977 SI cover featuring Larry Bird. Other 1977 things we’d like to see resurrected? Gold lamé jackets.

Cover Battle: M or The Nation

Welcome back to another edition of FishbowlNY’s weekly Cover Battle. This round features M magazine versus The Nation. For its latest issue, M went with a photograph of Ralph Fiennes to remind us all that we are not as cool as Ralph Fiennes. Mission accomplished.

Cover Battle: Capital New York or Billboard

Welcome back to another edition of FishbowlNY’s weekly Cover Battle. This round we have Capital New York taking on Billboard. We love the vintage feel of Capital’s Real Estate issue. Plus, Anna Wintour is featured, and if you don’t acknowledge her presence at every opportunity, you get fired from your job. We dare you to doubt the truth of that statement.

Cover Battle: The Hollywood Reporter or Popular Mechanics

Welcome back to another edition of FishbowlNY’s Cover Battle. This week we have The Hollywood Reporter taking on Popular Mechanics. THR went with a photo of the brilliant Seth Meyers throwing away jokes that are probably 10 times better than anything we’ll ever come up with. Yay!

Cover Battle: W or Fortune

Welcome back to another edition of FishbowlNY’s weekly Cover Battle. This week we have W taking on Fortune. For its latest issue, W went with naked (aside from a crap load of bracelets) Miley Cyrus. We are once again shocked by Cyrus’ edginess. What will she do next. It is going to be crazy.
