Bonnier Buys Nine Motorcycle Brands, Sells Others

Bonnier Corporation is making moves again. The publishing house has purchased nine motorcycle magazines from Source Interlink Media. In case you didn’t even know there were nine motorcycle magazines, included in the deal are Motorcyclist, Sport Rider, Dirt Rider, Motorcycle Cruiser, Hot Bike, Baggers, Super Streetbike, Street Chopper and ATV Rider. 

In addition to this purchase, Bonnier is selling some of its brands to Source Interlink. Sound + Vision, TransWorld SNOWboarding, TransWorld Motocross, TransWorld SKATEboarding, TransWorldSURF, TransWorld RIDEbmx and TransWorld Business are all now part of Source Interlink’s portfolio.

In a memo announcing the buy, Dave Freygang, Bonnier’s CEO, wrote that this would be the last major change for the company. Just last week Bonnier bought and then folded Parenting and Babytalk.

Gregory Gatto Promoted to Publisher of Bonnier Outdoor Brands

The moves at the top of Bonnier Corporation continue. When Dave Freygang was named CEO, he quickly tapped Eric Zinczenko to oversee all the company’s magazine brands. Now Zinczenko has made his first move: He has promoted Gregory Gatto to publisher of Field & StreamOutdoor Life and Shot Business. Gatto was most recently advertising director for the brands.

“Greg has a strong understanding of what is happening in media today and how best to integrate new media, which is exactly what is best for these brands now,” said Zinczenko, in a statement. “Add the fact that he is a true outdoorsman, he’s been responsible for the strong revenue growth of these titles and he has an outstanding reputation within this community.”

“There has never been a more exciting time to be the publisher of these iconic titles,” added Gatto.

Eric Zinczenko to Lead Bonnier’s Magazine Brands

Dave Freygang, who just became Bonnier’s new CEO, has made his first big move. Eric Zinczenko has been promoted to executive vice president of Bonnier Corporation. Zinczenko was most recently executive vice president of Bonnier Men’s Group, which included brands such as Popular Science and Field & Stream.

Zinczenko is now Freygang’s right hand man, and in this new role at the company he will be responsible for every single magazine brand.

Since 2006, every Bonnier brand Eric has had the opportunity to work on has improved,” said Freygang, in a statement. “Now I am looking forward to having him help our group publishers and business leaders in expanding their businesses and achieve the results we can expect with his vision and leadership.”

Terry Snow Retiring from Bonnier, Dave Freygang Named CEO

Terry Snow, CEO of Bonnier Corporation since 2007, is retiring effective January 14. He will continue at Bonnier as a member of the board. Snow became CEO of Bonnier shortly after it partnered with World Publications, a company Snow founded and had worked at for 28 years.

Dave Freygang, who most recently served as executive vice president for Bonnier’s Active Interest Division, is succeeding Snow. Freygang also worked at World Publications as CFO, and he expanded his role when it joined forces with Bonnier.

“Terry has been a great partner for us, his entrepreneurial vision and hard work helped launch Bonnier Corp. in the U.S.,” said Jonas Bonnier, CEO for Bonnier AB, parent company of Bonnier Corp., in a statement. “He will continue to be an asset to the development of the company as a member of the Board. I am also very pleased to have Dave Freygang take over as CEO. He is an excellent choice to lead Bonnier Corp. with his many years of experience and deep understanding of special interest brands and their evolving nature.”

Bonnier Adds Travel Veteran to Executive Team

Bonnier Corporation has named Ernie Renzulli, who had been Publisher of Shermans Travel Media since 2007, as its new Vice President, Group Publisher. At Bonnier he will oversee the travel brands, which include Islands, Caribbean Travel & Life, Spa and Destination Weddings & Honeymoons.

Dave Freygang, Senior Vice President at Bonnier, sees a perfect fit. “Ernie’s recent record of success and innovation in the travel industry with print and digital made him the unparalleled choice for this prominent role,” said Freygang. “He will bring these brands the vision and leadership they need to produce significant growth going forward.”

Dave Freygang Promoted at Bonnier

Terry Snow, CEO of Bonnier Corporation announced today that Dave Freygang has been promoted to Senior Vice President of the new Special Interest Division. Previously Freygang worked as  Vice President, Publishing, for Bonnier’s Trans World and Water Sports titles. His new position will combine almost 40 brands across several categories.

Snow said that Freygang’s ability to improve brands is what lead to the promotion:

Dave has been an exceptional, energetic leader in the company’s rapid evolution over the years, with a long record of success. In his publishing roles here, Dave has made his titles the leaders in their markets, with record growth in revenue and profits. I have full confidence in his ability to strengthen our overall business in his new position.

Some of the titles that Freygang will now oversee include Islands, Scuba Diving, and Boating. You’ll never guess what each of those magazines is about.
