HuffPo Writer Checks Out Peter Bogdanovich’s Latest Picture Show

On this particular day, cast and crew for Squirrels to the Nuts, Peter Bogdanovich‘s first feature directing effort in 12 years, were camped out in Washington Heights around West 175th Street. Since the production was winding down, HuffPost Entertainment reporter Mike Ryan caught sight of some more-unusual-than-usual scenes, like this one:

Cybill Shepherd is sitting in a director’s chair to my right, signing her autograph to a stack of periodicals. One is a Rolling Stone with the headline “Cybill Sizzles.” Another is an old TV Guide featuring the cast of Moonlighting. Part of me likes to think that this is just what Shepherd does in her free time, but it’s the last day of filming, so these are most likely requests from the crew.

The crux of Ryan’s piece is his failure to get much going conversationally with Bogdanovich. He notes that unlike most set visits, where a group of journalists are herded around to precise, scheduled chat sessions, he was left to his own solo devices.

Bill Hader Thanks HuffPost Writer for Tribute Piece

Celebrities attending Comic-Con cycle through a ton of interviews. So much so that in some cases they’re not always sure who they’re talking to.

“Wait, are you Mike Ryan?” asked Bill Hader at the beginning of his weekend chat with the Huffington Post senior entertainment writer. When Ryan answered in the affirmative, Hader went on to pay the journalist a very nice compliment:

“The day it came out that I was leaving SNL, I came in on Tuesday, and it was a little like, “Hey, everybody.” Everyone knew, but it was still, “Oh, it was in New York Times this morning…”

“I, personally, was feeling a little weird. And it was nice: Rob Klein, one of the writers, showed me that nice thing you wrote about me. That was such a nice – because you never know. And to be honest, I have such weird tunnel vision because I don’t really read stuff.”

Ice Cube Leaves Rap Fans Disappointed

Donovan Strain turned the rap world upside down in January when he dissected Ice Cube‘s “It Was a Good Day” single from 1993. After extensive research, Strain determined Cube’s good day was January 20, 1992 when:

  • Yo! MTV Raps aired
  • It was a clear and smogless day in Los Angeles
  • Beepers were commercially sold
  • The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Seattle SuperSonics
  • And Ice Cube had no events to attend

Another blogger with too much time on his hands claimed Strain’s theory was incorrect and the good day was actually November 30, 1988.

Mike Ryan of The Huffington Post sat down with Cube and finally got some clarity straight from the rapper:
