Internet Reacts to Jack Nicholson Retirement Report

Some, like breakingnews.ie’s Dave Molloy, felt the best way to go was a gallery of Jack GIFs. Others, including al.com’s Madison Underwood, have sparked up dialogue with readers, under what will surely be an oft-repeated headline: “We Can’t Handle the Truth…“.

Radar Online Scoops Up Whitey Bulger Prison Letter

At the Plymouth County House of Corrections in Plymouth, MA, Whitey Bulger is known as Inmate #1428AZ. A designation that also appears on the envelope of a letter sent out from prison and shared today by Radar Online.

The most intriguing portion of Bulger’s missive to an unnamed pal on the outside is the idea that this guy can still be shocked. The convicted Boston mob kingpin, who will be sentenced in November, writes that he had no idea until his trial about a certain double-double-cross aspect of the FBI informants he once relied on:

“These two [informants] were clever guys,” Bulger admitted. “Unknown to me, they faked a file to cover themselves in case (they were) seen in my company or loose lips on the phone that may compromise them.”

He said the files also got the crooked agents “bonuses, prestige and career enhancement.”

Assessing the Baron Davis ‘Alien Abduction’ Coverage

This ridiculous news item took flight thanks to a July 11 episode of Neal Brennan and Moshe Kasher‘s The Champs podcast. It officially crash landed exactly a week later by means of a Mea Culpa conversation between Knick hopeful Baron Davis and MSG Network’s Alan Hahn.

Now that the imaginary probes have been put away, all that’s left heading into the weekend is to award a few prizes  to some of the media folks that had the most fun with Davis’ close encounter of the made-up kind:

Best Slide Show – TIME: Northwestern/Medill grad and magazine writer/Web producer Samantha Grossman used the Davis podcast declaration to anchor a “10 Stars Who Have Seen Aliens” click-through.
