Professional Experience

I'm a South Africa-based American journalist with 10 years' experience as a daily reporter and photographer. I'm currently an editor for the Associated Press. I've covered the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, been the AP's lone correspondent in Ethiopia and covered conflict and general news in other parts of Africa and the world. I'm interested in covering stories in Africa that the big guys often miss because they're too complicated, too time-consuming or too targeted. I'm happy to travel and take the time to report a compelling story. As an editor, I'm also well-aware of the value of time pegs and topical stories. Aside from the above areas of expertise, my interests include food writing, fashion and design and my favorite sport: boxing. (By the way: in that photo, that's me front left, conferring with my television colleague before interviewing Muammar Gaddhafi. He's in the middle, in sunglasses.)
