Professional Experience

I'm an experienced culture writer, having covered music, books, and theater for a variety of publications while pursuing my graduate education. I have a PhD in English literature at the University of Virginia & now teach global literature, gender studies, and writing there. In my journalistic work, I bring my background in critical theory and literary analysis to bear on a broad range of topics, paying close attention to how a given text reflects, challenges, or even changes its surrounding cultural and political environments. I am comfortable writing in a variety of styles, from academic prose to reviews, interviews, reported pieces, and lists, and I am very eager to experiment with new digital formats in expanding my ability to tell stories and engage in critical analysis of cultural artifacts and trends.
