Golden Goose Day-Trader Receives Slap On the Wrist

Matthew Devlin, the former Lehman Brothers broker busted for sharing inside information gleaned from his PR pro wife Nina, was sentenced to three years probation by U.S. District Judge William Pauley.  Pauley described Devlin’s relatively small-time exploits as “tragic and senseless.”

To bring us way back to December 2008, Devlin and his band of misfit client-friends made trades based on intelligence he picked up from his wife, then a Brunswick Group exec, referred to as the “golden goose.”  She was never implicated, and landed at Edelman five months later.

The Creative Group Hiring Index for Marketing and Advertising Professionals found that hiring for the second quarter could be at a virtual standstill.

The recruitment firm interviewed 500 pros (375 marketing execs at companies with 100 or more employees, and 125 from ad agencies with 20 or more staffers) and found that 80 percent expect no changes in staff size, up four percent from the previous quarter. JetBlue Responds to Pilot ‘Panic Attack’

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Mashable has posted a short clip from the incident on a Las Vegas-bound JetBlue flight in which the captain had what some are calling a “panic attack.” The clip shows a relatively calm scene. Passengers are, of course, looking to see what’s going on, but it’s not the chaos one could imagine.

On the other hand, there’s this clip on ABC News that’s really frightening, not just for the passengers, but for the pilot, Clayton Osbon, who is clearly distraught. He has been suspended and is now getting medical attention while in FBI custody. This is barely two years after a JetBlue flight attendant Steven Slater decided he had enough and decided to quit his job via the plane’s emergency exit ramp.

Geraldo Rivera Issues a Fake Apology for His Ridiculous Hoodie Comments

Mustachioed jerk Geraldo Rivera issued a non-apology today for his comments about the Trayvon Martin tragedy, made last week on Fox & Friends. At the time, Rivera said that the hoodie the unarmed teen was wearing was just as responsible for his death as George Zimmerman, the man who shot him.

In a letter to Politico, Rivera wrote, “by putting responsibility on what kids wear instead of how people react to them I have obscured the main point that someone shot and killed an unarmed teenager.”

But he also said, “I apologize to anyone offended by what one prominent black conservative called my ‘very practical and potentially life-saving campaign urging black and Hispanic parents not to let their children go around wearing hoodies,’” quoting a story from the National Review.

According to Politico, Rivera has been “buried”  under backlash since the appearance. Criticism even came from his son.

We Were in the Lounge for the Shorty Awards

The Shorty Awards were handed out last night at the Times Center in New York, with award winners including New York’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg for Foursquare Mayor of the Year; Justin Bieber for music; and Occupy Wall Street for activism.

Hosted by The Daily Show‘s Samantha Bee and hubby IRL Jason Jones (left). According to the couple, they were happy to host and “honored to be away from their kids.”

A list of all the winners is available here and photos from the event have been posted on Flickr. (Separate from the awards themselves, this awful thing happened after “The Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl” won. Shameful and disgusting.)

Still not sure what all the fuss is about? Click through.
