Roll Call: Ogilvy Washington and Bolt PR

Ogilvy Washington announced a significant senior hire to the Social@Ogilvy practice. Kathy Baird joined Ogilvy Washington as senior vice president of Strategy. In addition to her new role at Ogilvy, Baird is an adjunct professor for Digital Strategy at Georgetown University for the Public Relations and Corporate Communications Graduate School and has taught at the University since 2008. Prior to joining Ogilvy, Baird led the integrated marketing team at FleishmanHillard. In her 17 year career, her client experience ranges from corporate, association, government, nonprofit and academic programs, and her work has earned her several awards including a Cannes PR Lion Shortlist Award and several Addys. In addition to working in the agency environment for the past 10 years, Kathy has also held global positions at several telecommunications companies including MCI, WorldCom, UUNET and WorldSpace. Bolt Public Relations announced the expansion of its Irvine operations with the addition of Bryn Mohr as group account director. Over the last 15 years, Mohr has developed integrated communications plans and provided strategic insight for clients including California Avocado Commission, Dole, Procter & Gamble, Seattle’s Best Coffee, Sunkist Citrus, Tourism New Zealand and ValleyCrest Landscape Companies. In her new role at Bolt PR, Mohr will be responsible for managing the agency’s growing list of account teams that include clients in the food and restaurant, hospitality, consumer lifestyle, interior design and technology industries. She also will assist in business development for the agency’s Irvine office. Her extensive background in media strategy, product launches, brand communications and message development makes her an integral part of the Bolt PR team. Health Care Industry, PR Pros Prepare for Tomorrow’s SCOTUS Ruling

Tomorrow is another big day for the Supreme Court, with the ruling on the Affordable Care Act, President Obama’s health care reform legislation, coming down. Everyone will be impacted either which way the decision falls — families, the elderly, those without health insurance, and all of the companies involved in providing, managing, and paying for health care. Those companies, and their PR consultants, have the tough task of preparing for the unknown.

“We’ve been counseling our clients to get out ahead of the decision,” Brendan Daly, EVP and national director of corporate and public affairs at Ogilvy Washington, told us in an email message. “Several health insurance companies proactively communicated that, regardless of the Supreme Court’s decision, they would continue popular provisions of the health care law, such as allowing children to remain on their parents’ plan until age 26.”

“No matter how the court rules, the future of health care is changing,” he continued. “Companies should focus on communicating about their contribution to transforming the health care system – how they are working to improve health care delivery and quality of care, while working to reduce costs and waste.”

Roll Call: GolinHarris, kwittken, Ogilvy, and More

Simon Ruparelia has been appointed head of GolinHarris‘ digital team in Asia Pacific, a newly created position. He was previously Unilever’s global program planner of digital marketing. According to a statement from Jonathan Hughes, president, international, this is the first hire under GH’s new g4 model.  Ruparelia will initially be based in Singapore.

David Press has joined kwittken + company as MD of the new Corporate Strategy Group, which will provide corp comms services such as issues and crisis management, IR, and executive coaching. Press was previously with FTI Consulting (formerly Financial Dynamics).

Ogilvy Re-Ups With Multi-Million Dollar ‘Heart Truth’ Campaign

Ogilvy Washington has signed a five-year, multi-million dollar contract with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) to continue its work on “The Heart Truth” campaign. The firm has worked with the NHLBI on the campaign since 2001. The organization is part of the National Institutes of Health.

The campaign raises awareness about heart disease among women; the NHLBI says heart disease is the deadliest disease for American women.

The campaign includes an annual Red Dress Fashion Show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, community outreach and local screenings, and a social media component.

Pelosi Comms Director Headed to Ogilvy

Brendan Daly, communications director for Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, will join Ogilvy Washington as EVP and national director for public affairs. Daly will lead the firm’s public affairs offering from D.C.

He has worked with Pelosi since 2002. “Brendan has been an essential part of my team for nearly a decade, and his leadership, hard work, and dedication have been essential to the progress we have made on behalf of the American people,” Pelosi said in a statement. This is Daly’s first job in the private sector, Politico writes.
