Ryan Kadro Named Senior Broadcast Producer Of ‘CBS This Morning’

CBS News’ “CBS This Morning” has named Ryan Kadro senior broadcast producer. Kadro joined “CTM” as a senior producer when it launched, having worked previously at “The Early Show.”

“Over the past year and a half, he has built one of the best feature tape units in the business, overseen the successful new 8a format and been a vital editorial voice in the control room,” wrote “CTM” EP Chris Licht in an email to staff. “Ryan is also a natural and trusted news room leader who staffers seek out for advice on everything from scripts to restaurant recommendations.”

Kadro will now be Licht’s number two on the broadcast. In January, Tom Mazzarelli left as “CTM’”s senior broadcast producer, while Brian Applegate, who succeeded Mazzarelli, left to oversee ‘CBS This Morning Saturday” in May.

Licht’s note is below.

On His Last Day At CBS, Tom Mazzarelli Returns To The Driver’s Seat Of ‘CTM’

Today is “CBS This Morning” senior broadcast producer Tom Mazzarelli‘s last day at CBS. He was planning to come in when he normally does, managing the show’s team of producers, anchors and staff.

In the middle of the night, however, he got a call. Brian Applegate, who is replacing Mazzarelli as senior broadcast producer, had to go to the hospital as his wife went into labor. So Mazzarelli got to the office a few hours earlier than he planned, and got hands-on for his final day at CBS.

At the very end of the program, Norah O’Donnell turned the cameras on Mazzarelli, and wished him well.

“If you’ve watched this show, you’ve watched his work,” she said.

Producer Changes at ‘CBS This Morning’

“CBS This Morning” EP Chris Licht has made some top producer changes at the 11-month old morning show.

Brian Applegate has been named senior broadcast producer and Matthew Glick is a new senior producer overseeing guest bookings.

Applegate had been EP for CBS News’ overnight show “Up to the Minute” and the 4am “CBS Morning News.” Glick joins CBS News from NBC News where he was part of the team that helped launch “Rock Center with Brian Williams.” Glick is also a “Today” show alum.

The current Senior Broadcast Producer Tom Mazzarelli will be leaving the show, but staying on through the run of his contract. There is speculation he might return to NBC’s “Today” show where he was senior producer from 2003-2006. A return to “Today” would reunite him with Don Nash, who was named Executive Producer of “Today” earlier this month and who officially takes the reins next Monday.

Mazzarelli joined CBS News in 2008 as senior producer of “The Early Show.”
