Former WFTS Reporter to Run for Congress

Former WFTS reporter Alan Cohn will challenge Rep. Dennis Ross (R) to represent Florida’s 15th Congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Cohn, who plans to officially announce his candidacy this week, was an investigative reporter at the Tampa-St. Petersburg ABC affiliate. He left the station in June 2012.

Cohn told Deggans that his run for office will likely prevent him from working as a reporter in the future. “You can’t do what I’m doing and go back to covering a beat,” Cohn said. “But I would like to do this more than any job I can think of.”

Investigative Reporter Alan Cohn Leaves WFTS

Investigative reporter Alan Cohn has parted ways with WFTS in Tampa, Eric Deggans of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

“I can’t say what happened,” Cohn said. “All I know is, I’m very proud of what I’ve done at Channel 28. I never broke as many big stories anywhere as I did at that station.”

Cohn joined the Tampa ABC-affiliate in 2009 from WTNH, the ABC-affiliate in New Haven. When contacted by Deggans, general manager Rick Pergram declined to comment on Cohn’s departure, citing “personnel issues.”
