Hearst Makes Changes to WBAL and WGAL Creative Departments

hearst tv logo_304x200Hearst has promoted from within to head up the creative departments at two of its owned stations.

John Baldwin has been named creative services director for Baltimore NBC affiliate WBAL. He moves over from WGAL, the Hearst owned NBC station in Lancaster, PA.

“John has demonstrated a keen understanding of how to successfully steward a brand, especially in today’s multi-platform world,” WBAL president and GM Dan Joerres said in a statement.

Baldwin wasted no time in announcing Elizabeth Montijo has been promoted to fill his slot as creative services director at WGAL. Read more

Justin Betti Joins WGAL From WJRT

Justin BettiJustin Betti has joined WGAL, the NBC affiliate in Lancaster, Pa., as a sports anchor and reporter. Betti, a Pennsylvania native, will anchor weekend sportscasts and report during the week.

“Justin’s diverse experience makes him a great fit for this position that requires both sports and news reporting skills. In his first week at WGAL he’s already made contributions to our broadcasts by reporting on the winter snowstorms as well as his anchoring of our weekend evening sportscasts at 6PM, 10PM and 11PM,” WGAL general manager John Humphries said in a statement.

Betti comes to Lancaster from Flint, Mich., where he was a sports and news reporter at ABC affiliate WJRT.

John Humphries has been named president and general manager at WGAL, Hearst’s NBC affiliate in Lancaster, Pa.

Humphries comes from WYFF, Hearst’s NBC affiliate in Greenville, S.C., where he has been director of sales since 2006. He succeeds Paul Quinn, who announced his retirement in September.

“John brings a diverse background in news, multiplatform sales, and management to his new role at the helm of the leading TV station in the Lancaster-Harrisburg market,” Hearst Television president and CEO David J. Barrett said in a statement. “He has the experience and vision to help build upon the outstanding legacy of Paul Quinn and the WGAL team.” Read more
