Detroit’s WXYZ Adds Ronnie Dahl, Andy Choi and Nima Shaffe

Detroit ABC affiliate WXYZ has added three new reporters: Ronnie Dahl (left), Andy Choi (center) and Nima Shaffe (right).

“We are incredibly proud of our award-winning staff at 7 Action News, and excited to add the journalistic talents of Ronnie, Andy and Nima to our team,” WXYZ VP-GM Ed Fernandez said in a statement.

Dahl comes from rival WJBK, Detroit’s Fox O&O. She previously worked at WXYZ as a special projects producer, as well as at WUPW in Toledo and WSYM in Lansing, Mich.

Choi, who will be a multimedia journalist at WXYZ, comes to Detroit from Madison, Wisc., where he was a reporter and anchor at WISC.

Shaffe joins the station from KCTV in Kansas City, where he has been a general assignment reporter for two years. He has also worked at KMTV in Omaha, KKTV in Colorado Springs and KQTV in St. Joseph, Mo.

Dahl has already begun in her new role at WXYZ. Choi and Shaffe begin in early April.

Reporter Nima Shaffe joins WXYZ in Detroit from KCTV in Kansas City.

Nima Shaffe to Join WXYZ in Detroit

Nima Shaffe will be leaving his hometown of Kansas City to join Detroit ABC affiliate WXYZ.

Shaffe, who is currently a reporter for CBS affiliate KCTV, said in his station bio page he’s always thrilled his family gets to see him on air. “Every time I step in front of the camera, it’s a tribute to my parents,” said the Kansas City native. “Both of my parents were born and raised in Iran and later immigrated and gained U.S. citizenship. Kansas City became their second home. Every time I step in front of the camera, I tell myself, ‘This one’s for you Dad. This one’s for you Mom.”

He previously worked for KMTV in Omaha and KKTV in Colorado Springs, CO.

According to Bottom Line Communications, Shaffe will start at WXYZ two weeks from Monday on March 18.

Anchor Ali Lucia is leaving KTTC in southern Minnesota to join WAVY in Norfolk, VA, where she will cover sports and also appear on the station’s morning lifestyle show.

Reporter Eric Rasmussen moves to KTVU-TV in San Francisco (from WFTV, Orlando).

Reporter Ann Keil moves to WXIN-TV in Indianapolis (from WATE, Knoxville)

Eric and Ann are represented by Steve Swienckowski of DCA (The David Crane Agency).

Nima Shaffe joins CBS-Affiliate KCTV in Kansas City as a general assignment reporter. Nima most recently worked at the CBS-affiliate in Omaha and is a graduate of Park University.

Nima is represented by Mort Meisner Associates.
