In the world of freelancing, one price doesn't fit all jobs. That's the beauty -- and curse -- of being a contractor. According to the 2012 Freelance Industry Report, 34.5 percent of freelancers bill by the hour, while the majority -- 59.9 percent -- use flat fees. You may prefer one to the other, but it is a good idea to have an hourly rate, so you can use that to formulate a project fee or per-word fee if you need them.
