Background: When a young girl is old enough to purchase her first tube of flavored lip gloss, she has earned the rapt, full attention of the magazine industry. She maintains that attention throughout her high school and college years, into her first job and straight on past her wedding day. But as she inches ever closer to the age of 40, suddenly there are fewer and fewer faces that look like hers who are smiling back at her from the magazine newsstand. That's where New You comes into play. "Our target readership is 35 and up because it is such an underserved arena," says executive editor Ruchel Louis Coetzee. "We're looking to impart the most trusted, accurate information on anything to do with living well, and, of course, your health and beauty and [desire to stay] relevant in society."
The title was purchased by Great HealthWorks from private owners in January 2013 and has featured "smart beautiful women who embody the New You brand on our covers," says Coetzee, including Sharon Stone, Courteney Cox, Martha Stewart and Robin McGraw (Dr. Phil's wife). "[They're] all very strong women who have stories to tell," adds Coetzee.
