Course Details

This intermediate level class will help you to improve the quality of your digital images. For experienced photographers, this class provides a fundamental understanding of the elements that make good photographs and how effective images can be created using the wealth of tools found in the latest digital cameras.

By understanding the different qualities of light, the importance of white balance and exposure and exploring a subject using composition, you can quickly elevate your personal and professional photography to new levels.

Using actual examples of portrait, landscape, documentary and product photography, the class will help you improve your way of seeing and your ability to consistently produce great images.

In this class, you can expect to learn:

  • How to evaluate light before exposing your first frame
  • Discover the importance of white balance for color accuracy
  • The benefits of shooting in RAW or JPEG
  • The role of ISO sensitivity for successfully getting your shot
  • The creative options provided by controlling shutter speed and aperture
  • How to use the histogram and LCD to ensure accurate exposures.

Students are welcome to bring their cameras to class.

Ibarionex R. Perello is a writer and photographer who has over 15 years worth of experience in the photographic industry. He is currently associate editor for Outdoor Photographer, PC Photo, and Digital Photo Pro Magazines. He was a technical engineer for Nikon Inc. for 8 years where he provided technical support and training on both film and digital technologies.

His personal photographic work has been published in the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Examiner, and East Bay Express. His personal photographic projects including an 5-year documentary project which focused on Broadway in downtown Los Angeles. He is currently producing a series of portraits on established and emerging writers of Southern California.
