Course Details

Today's journalists work in a multimedia world. The web and the growth in broadband has taken journalism far beyond the printed word, and many media outlets today provide users with audio, video, Flash, and photography, either as standalone work or to accompany written stories. The fact is, many editors will find a pitch immensely more appealing if you can provide not only a written article, but well-produced photographs, audio, and video as well.

This seminar will take a look at the options that are available to the multimedia journalist. You will learn how to plan and produce work that integrates written copy, audio, video and photographs into an appealing package. You will also learn about new types of content like podcasting, and be exposed to media technologies like Flash that can help take your work to a new level.

In this 3-hour seminar, you can expect to learn:

  • How to think about multimedia when planning your story
  • How to build your story about multimedia
  • The equipment, technology and skills you will need (and how much can you get for free)
  • How to assemble your media into a complete story package
  • What is podcasting and how can you do it
  • How to pitch your multimedia ideas
  • Outlets receptive to multimedia pitches
  • How to build a portfolio to show off your work
