Course Details

Travel the world and get paid for it? Sounds too good to be true, but you can do it simply by establishing a home base as a freelance travel writer. If you've got an open mind, an eye for the offbeat, and some basic writing skills, you're well on your way toward getting your travel pieces published -- and having editors add you to their go-to lists for repeat assignments. But how do you get started?

This informative, engaging seminar will show you how to break into the travel writing world. You'll learn how travel editors think, what they want from their writers, and how to give it to them. There are story ideas in any place, and more places to pitch travel pieces than you think. And there are ways to sell, resell, and resell your pieces again.

In this seminar, you will learn:

  • The fundamentals of travel writing
  • Useful insider tips for selling your articles
  • How to identify markets, how to pitch stories, and how to make a living at travel writing
  • What makes a good travel memoir

Testimonials

Ethan Gildsorf has an ability to make even dry facts entertaining. I found his seminar to be well-structured, informative and interesting, his teaching style honest and straightforward. His myriad experiences, handouts, and anecdotes made for a rewarding introduction to the field. -- Jessica Lee, freelancer

"Ethan's practical teaching style made Arts and Culture Writing seem very accessible. In addition to talking about his own experience, he had us brainstorm story ideas from a press release to illustrate many of his points. He covered a wide range of material that was useful for both new and seasoned freelancers, and the packet of resources and story examples he provided will be invaluable." -- Julia Maranan, freelancer
