When it comes to finding a job, the Internet can be your best friend -- or your worst enemy. Online sites can be more than just a great way to see the latest job openings. They can also provide you with invaluable networking resources (think LinkedIn). After all, it's not what you know, it's who you know. There's also no excuse for not having a stack of writing samples to send off. No clips? No problem. By starting your own blog, you can show off your writing, and by creating a simple website you can broadcast your resume and your skills. Of course, there's a right way and a wrong way to approach these tasks.

But beware, Facebook lovers. Those pictures of you at last year's hula party, standing over the keg, can come back to haunt you. More and more recruiters are Googling their job candidates before offering an interview, and the wrong image can cost you a key career opportunity.

But fear not. This seminar will teach you how to make the most of online resources and put yourself in the best light.

In this seminar, you will learn:

  • How to evaluate the online image you've already created, and why it matters so much
  • Strategies for cleaning up your image while still being true to your individual personalities
  • The free -- or nearly free -- tools that every new entrant to the job market should be using (LinkedIn, Myspace, Zoominfo, Blogger/Blogspot, etc.)
  • Why having a blog or personal site can be useful for breaking in
  • Why you have more contacts than you think, and how to use online tools to expand your reach
  • The do's and don'ts from top recruiters and hiring editors in the field
