Ever wanted to voice your opinion in a medium that is widely circulated and influential? The Op-Ed page may be the most sought-after real estate in any newspaper and offers an opportunity for outside writers, whether known or unknown, to showcase their ability to lay out a forceful argument. Done well, Op-Eds have the power to change policy, sway public opinion or, at the very least, stir debate. These pages are read by people at the highest levels of government, business, the arts, and academia.

A good Op-Ed uses forceful language and stays ahead of the news curve. It is provocative and pushes the national debate forward. Moreover, a nicely argued Op-Ed can burnish an author's credentials as an expert their field.

In this seminar, you will learn how to:

  • Organize your thoughts and ideas into a well-structured Op-Ed
  • Pitch and get your opinions noticed by editors
  • Stay ahead of the news curve and find topics/angles that get published
  • Sell yourself as an "expert"
  • Use the first-person technique to get your point across
  • Find the right market for your opinion essays
  • Write a killer lede
