Course Details

Thanks to social media like Facebook, Twitter, and blogs, almost anyone can publish content online. The trick is in getting people to read what you write -- and to pay you for doing it.

This seminar will cover the basics of how to write, edit, and publish online content
. It's simply not enough to deliver information on a website anymore. You have to create a conversation and build a community with your readers.

We'll discuss how to thrive in a high-tech medium with the low-tech skills you already have. We'll also talk about the big trends in online journalism today and what they mean for professional writers and editors.

In this seminar, you will learn:

  • Why writing for the web is different from print
  • How to make the most of the medium and avoid common mistakes
  • The basics of usability (how people use websites) and search engine rankings
  • What you need to know about technology and web design
  • An overview of trends, including online video and blogging
  • Where the new jobs are
