SYNOPSIS
Well-known media designer Roger Black has some secrets. He shares them here, in our Speakers Series, for the first time. Using real-world examples from complex multi-million-dollar Web sites he's designed, Black shares his expertise and tells how it all gets done -- from the technology, to the artistry, to the editorial and commercial struggles. He tells why Google might be in trouble, how you can bring traffic to your Web content, and how important it is to considera new eye-tracking study and branding in everything you do. Black's presentation shows how he worked on an early version of the new New York Times Web site, an overhaul of Bloomberg.com, and a redesign of the award-winning Houston Chronicle site, and he lays out the truth about blogs, social networking, rich media, and a new Microsoft application he’s helping to develop.

His presentation is a pragmatic, fast-track look ahead at the state of digital design.

Roger Black is an award-winning American designer who has worked on newspapers, magazines, and Web sites around the world. His new blog (rogerblack.com) has attracted attention, and, typically, a little controversy. He recently helped Bloomberg redesign Bloomberg.com. This spring, he helped launch Rove (rovesite.com), Key West magazine, and DailyComedy.com.

He is now working on BoxOffice in Hollywood (both print and online); and planning for the next steps for a new magazine for grandparents, Grand. Black works from a small consulting firm in New York, Roger Black Studio (www.rogerblack.com). He's a founding partner in Danilo Black S.A. in Monterrey, Mexico, and the Font Bureau, both started in 1989. Previously he served as chief art director of Newsweek, The New York Times, New York magazine, and Rolling Stone.
