LAT Lays Off 75 Journos; 40 Percent Of Star-Ledger Staffers Take Buyouts

The
Los Angeles Times continued to perform drastic reductions on its editorial side in the name of the bottom line,
cutting the positions of 75 journos. Editor
Russ Stanton announced the news in a memo, writing, "This is about 10 percent of our total staff and these cuts are comparable in scale to those made on the business side of the
Times last week." Among those losing their positions are
Maria Russo,
Carina Chocano, and
Veronique de Turenne... Tribune Company boss
Sam Zell also
decided to combine the D.C. bureaus of
Chicago Tribune and
L.A. Times, reducing 42 staffers by 12... 40 percent ...
