Gawker Buys Cityfile, Ousts Editor; Sun Sets on East WestFebruary 16, 2010
For reasons he doesn't understand, Gabriel Snyder is out at Gawker. The move stems from Gawker Media's first-ever purchase. Nick Denton's company bought Cityfile and announced editor Remy Stern will take over as editor-in-chief of Gawker. (mediabistro.com's parent company, WebMediaBrands, also pursued Stern's site.) Denton offered Snyder a temporary position of assistant managing editor, but he smartly declined.
