Gawker Buys Cityfile, Ousts Editor; Sun Sets on East West

For reasons he doesn't understand, Gabriel Snyder is out
at Gawker. The move stems from
Gawker Media's first-ever purchase. Nick Denton
's company bought Cityfile and announced editor Remy Stern
will take over as editor-in-chief of Gawker. (mediabistro.com's parent company, WebMediaBrands, also pursued
Stern's site.) Denton offered Snyder a temporary position of assistant managing editor, but he smartly declined. In a post on Friday, the outgoing EIC discussed
the site's record traffic and ended his inspired missive with the sentence, "So onward." Ironically, Gawker will continue going forward without Snyder, although ...
