ESPN picks a new ombudsman, and it's an organization. The Worldwide Leader will team with The Poynter Institute to create The Poynter Review Project. Kelly McBride, Regina McCombs, and Butch Ward will run point for the endeavor. The group will write monthly columns during the 18-month stint and hopes to expand the purview of the ombudsman position. Previous ESPN ombudsmen include Don Ohlmeyer, Le Anne Schreiber and George Solomon...

Keith Kelly continues his breathless reporting on who is in charge at Time Inc. The answer, for now: No one really knows, although chief financial officer Howard Averill made out the best. David Geithner, brother of Tim (yes, the Treasury Secretary) made a big jump as well. Elsewhere at the company, individual titles can once again "decide when and where to run their own mastheads, based on...who produces the magazine, book makeup reasons or commercial reasons." Jack Griffin's order that each magazine needed to run a standard masthead was one of those small problems cited when staffers discussed the corporate clash between the outgoing CEO -- who was fired quickly for a reason -- and the company... Three high-level executives have left Crain Communications in the past few months. It's either a sign of the times or something more insidious...

Matt Bai returns to The New York Times Magazine. He left last year to be the first national political columnist in the news pages of the Gray Lady, but Hugo Lindgren lured him back. Bai pens this weekend's cover story on New Jersey Governor Chris Christie... Patrick Pexton has been named ombudsman at The Washington Post. He had been deputy editor at National Journal for the past eight years. Entertainment Weekly promotes a host of staffers on the print and online side, including Leah Greenblatt -- who moves from music critic to senior editor -- and EW.com news director Mike Bruno, who jumps to assistant managing editor of the site... Sabrina Strelitz moves up to accessories editor at InStyle... Playboy adds three new columnists...

Jim Murphy leaves Good Morning America for an executive producer slot at Anderson Cooper's new show, Anderson, and Nightline's executive producer James Goldston steps in Murphy's former position... ESPN hires former Green Bay Packers vice president Andrew Brandt as National Football League business analyst. He'll certainly be in demand as the league steams towards a work stoppage...After rumors circulated for months, Kathleen Parker is officially out as co-host of Parker Spitzer. CNN's executive VP Ken Jautz states that she "has decided to leave the program to focus on her writing, and we have decided to take the show in a new direction..."

The departures continue at AOL. Content head David Eun resigns before Arianna Huffington takes over. Carl Cannon moves to RealClearPolitics.com. He had been executive editor of Politics Daily, which looks to be on its last legs... TBD.com slashes its staff. The Allbritton Communications venture was intended to be a Politico for Washington area news, but the sales staff struggled to monetize the growing traffic. A dozen of the 23 editorial staffers will lose their jobs as the site shifts to cover arts, entertainment and lifestyle. Erik Wemple will remain as editor... And there are changes at Sporting News, Big Fuel and more...
