Staffers Flee HuffPo; Ed Schultz Suspended

May 27, 2011
MSNBC suspends Ed Schultz for one week after he called Laura Ingraham a "slut." Schultz apologized profusely for his "vile and inappropriate language," but could not get in touch with Ingraham. MSNBC's brass responded with a statement: "Remarks of this nature are unacceptable and will not be tolerated." Greta van Susteren thought Schultz's effort was heartfelt and urged everyone to move on, while the victim accepted his apology via Twitter...

It looks like Erin Burnett may land on CNN at 7 p.m. "Page Six" hears she will replace John King USA sometime in June. (CNN issued a statement refuting the paper's claims. They say King's ratings are up 68 percent year-over-year and that "We look forward to having a lineup that includes both John King and Erin Burnett as well as our many other talented CNN anchors come the fall.")... Scott Matthews moves the other way, joining CNBC where he'll be vice president of news specials... William Burton is the new president and general manager at KGO-TV in San Francisco...

Bridgette Maney, previously a PR person on the Oprah Winfrey Show, joins ABC's publicity staff. She will focus on The Chew, the new food-focused show hosted by Mario Batali, What Not to Wear stylist Clinton Kelly, Top Chef contestant Carla Hall, chef Michael Symon, and nutrition expert Daphne Oz... Ogilvy hires Judy Brennan as EVP and Midwest director of the firm's financial and reputation risk group. She worked in the New York office during the 1990s. The company also snags Iain Bundred. Bundred was once the spokesperson for former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown...

Good news: The Huffington Post launches a Canadian vertical and staffs up AOL Daily Finance. The bad: Employees -- like senior style editor Anya Strzemien, who moved to xoJane.com -- are fleeing, leaving descriptions such as "brutal," "awful," and "worst few weeks" in their wake... Recently married Dan Frommer leaves Business Insider to try his hand at "building some things of [his] own."... HotAir.com hires Tina Korbe to report in Washington D.C. She is Arkansas Jr. Miss 2006 and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Arkansas where she edited The Arkansas Traveler... And there are changes at Break Media, Elle and more...
