Get On The Air: WFLD-TV FOX Chicago News
This Windy City station wants smart, experienced newshounds who connect closely with viewers- June 6, 2011
Station name: WFLD-TV FOX Chicago News
City and state: Chicago, Illinois
Background: FOX Chicago News offers morning and nightly television programming, priding itself on coverage that goes beyond sound bites and headlines. "We don't hesitate to hold those in a position of power, such as local politicians, accountable," says Carol Fowler, news director. The station's signature segment, "Fox Chicago Investigates," provides viewers with hard-hitting investigative reports often with a focus on local government corruption. In 2010, the station received a Peabody award for its series of reports about the sidewalk murder of honor student Derrion Albert.
In recent years, FOX Chicago has made significant investments in news expansion adding more than an hour and a half of coverage to its "fast-paced, information rich" morning news program. Its hour-long evening newscast offers longer form reporting bringing in experts, commentators and analysts to drill down on the day's news. "This format allows our anchors Bob Sirott and Robin Robinson to get further involved in the stories we are reporting, making for a more edgy, less scripted newscast," Fowler says.
