MSNBC Loses a Young Turk; Twitter Fires Members of Old Guard

Cenk Uygur leaves MSNBC in a huff. The Young Turks host told his audience, "I didn't want to work at a place that didn't want to do my kind of show," after MSNBC management told him to tone down his shtick. The network's flack, however, calls the claims "baseless." So, difference of opinion? Uygur still has a hugely popular Internet radio show, so there's that. Regardless, there are still plenty of rumors floating around that Al Sharpton will be his replacement (spurred in part by the Reverend's website, which touts the show)...

Joy-Ann Reid joins MSNBC as a contributor and managing editor of theGrio.com... It looks as though David Leonhardt will be the next Washington bureau chief of The New York Times... The Arizona Daily Star and the Chicago Tribune cut 40 and 20 jobs, respectively... Marissa Maier is the new editor of the New York Press...

New York names Stephanie Trong fashion editor of the website. She'll head up the fashion, beauty and shopping content, as well as The Cut blog. She had been editorial director at Gilt Groupe, deputy digital editor at Lucky, and executive editor at Nylon...

Twitter's Jack Dorsey fires four members of the product team. Anamitra Banerji, Jean-Paul Cozzatti, Josh Elman, and Kevin Cheng were allies of Evan Williams and Biz Stone who recently departed along with Jason Goldman to start a new company... Etsy CTO Chad Dickerson will now be referred to as CEO... The Daily Caller hires David Martosko as executive editor...
