Gawker Shuffles Up Top; Conde's New Prez

November 29, 2011
Big news out of Nick Denton's lair: The Gawker Media head puts A.J. Daulerio in charge of Gawker and elevates Deadspin senior editor Tommy Craggs to head the sports (and men's lifestyle) site. Remy Stern, Gawker's current editor-in-chief, is "stepping down," according to an internal memo sent by Denton, but will remain in the GM family. Daulerio's move comes as a bit of a surprise, but not a huge one to those who have been paying attention. He felt that he accomplished his goals at the sports site founded by his friend Will Leitch -- growing traffic, commissioning longer features and, of course, scoring crotch shots -- and has always fashioned himself as more of a muckraker than a traditional sports journalist. He'll be a huge help in developing new talent at Gawker, while the Craggs-led Deadspin is a frighteningly awesome proposition indeed...

Young Turks adds a host of young talent to its production ranks. The Current TV show hires Steve Lange as executive producer with Roland Woerner joining as senior producer and Genji Keen jumping on board as director. Cenk Uygur will continue as host after his dramatic departure from MSNBC... Alina Falcon joins Telemundo as chief news executive. She formerly served as president of Univision News. In her new position, she will be in charge of all news, reality and alternative shows... Comcast puts Michael J. Angelakis in the vice chairman spot. He negotiated the deal with NBC Universal Inc. and landed the 2014 and 2020 Olympic broadcast rights...

Conde Nast International promotes Nicholas Coleridge to president. He had been managing director of the company's British operations. Moritz von Laffert will be vice president of Conde International while continuing to serve as president of CN in Germany... The New Haven Register reorganizes its newsroom in an effort to keep up with the digital world and focus on investigative reporting. Michelle Tuccitto Sullo and Mary O'Leary will head the latter group while Angela Carter and Ed Stannard are in charge of the new audience engagement squad... Pippa Middleton scores $700,000 for a book on how to host the perfect party... Nikki Finke raids, snagging Kinsey Lowe and Nancy Tartaglione-Moore as nighttime managing editor and international editor, respectively... And there are changes at The Hill, ABC News and more...
