Background: Launched in January 2011, TheDailyMeal.com is a national food website from Spanfeller Media Group, the company founded by former Forbes.com CEO Jim Spanfeller. In August of 2011, SMG raised over $6 million for expansion, and within the first year the epicurean portal has seen more than 2 million monthly unique visitors. The Daily Meal teamed up with leading digital marketplace, Cooking.com, to create an online cookware store for the site, where readers can purchase more than 7,000 kitchenware and specialty foods. Colman Andrews, Saveur co-founder and cookbook author, serves as editorial director.
The website is divided into 5 sections: "Cook," "Entertain," "Eat/Diner," "Travel" and "Drink." "We're the premier food destination for recipes, restaurant reviews, editorial content, cooking advice and consumer sharing," says managing editor Valaer Murray. "We want publicists to understand our mission: harvesting the delicious and discarding the mundane, being the friend on the inside, delivering a fresh take on dining news and trends, discovering and reporting with a sense of fun and curiosity."...
