Letterman Breaks A Late Night Milestone

January 13, 2012
Quadrangle Capital makes yet another change to the top of Alpha Media, publisher of Maxim, installing Jack Kliger as executive chairman. CEO Joseph Mangione is out in the process. Chief revenue officer Ben Madden scores a promotion, moving to president, while Kliger will continue in his position of acting CEO at TV Guide as well. He previously served as CEO of Hachette Filipacchi Media. Maxim saw ad pages drop 15.9 percent in 2011, and the Revolving Door does not think this latest move will do much to change that fate (although we hope we are mistaken)...

New York taps Thomas Alberty as design director. He had been an art director at GQ, which means Jim Nelson is now scrambling for a new hire. Alberty previously worked at New York, but left near the beginning of Moss' tenure. Additionally, Matt Zoller Seitz replaces Emily Nussbaum as TV critic... Wenner Media adds David Kang as chief digital officer. The former Hearst Magazines man will have his work cut out reorienting the traditionally digital-phobic Wenner... The Root promotes Lauren Williams to deputy editor. She had been associate editor and fills the space vacated by Sheryl Huggins Salomon, who took over as managing editor when Joel Dreyfuss departed in November... The New Haven Register shuts down its printing operation and lays off 105 people. The paper will move into a new newsroom, one that's open and where "the public will be invited to participate in and observe local journalism."...

It looks like David Letterman and CBS are close to a new deal that would keep the Late Show host on television through 2014. That would make 32 years in the host chair for Letterman, two more than Johnny Carson... Adrienne Mong moves to NBC News' London bureau. She'll manage the outfit, a step up from her previous role as a correspondent and producer in the Beijing office... Bloomberg TV loses Lizzie O'Leary who joins CNN as an aviation and regulation correspondent... Rebecca Jarvis lands a spot as a co-host of CBS This Morning's Saturday edition...

Zynga snags Barry Cottle, previously executive vice president of EA Interactive, away. He becomes one of more than one hundred employees to jump from the traditional gaming company to the startup... TechCrunch recruits Anthony Ha to its ranks... And there are changes at Financial Times, ProPublica and more...
