OWN Cuts Top Exec; Facebook Gets Managing Editor

Oprah Winfrey's network continues to struggle. OWN loses Lisa Erspamer, EVP of production and development and formerly one of the co-executive producers for the The Oprah Winfrey Show. She is "leaving the company by mutual agreement to pursue other opportunities," an OWN spokeswoman tells The New York Times, but Deadline Hollywood reports she was fired. Erspamer had been the chief creative officer until the summer when Winfrey herself took over the role. The 18-year Harpo veteran was supposed to lend her magic creative touch to OWN's programming, but failed as ratings across the board are bad. Discovery Fit & Health's Rita Mullin will fill in while OWN searches for a replacement...

Reuters hires Paulo Prada away from The Wall Street Journal while also adding Joan Biskupic. The latter takes over as legal affairs editor-in-charge, joining from USA Today. She replaces Jesse Wegman, who is joining Newsweek as senior editor... Mary Junck takes over as chairman of the Associated Press board. She is chairman and CEO of Lee Enterprises, Inc... The Los Angeles Times loses 23-year New York bureau veteran Geraldine Baum. "It's time for Geraldine 2.0," she writes in a statement announcing the news. Best of luck...

NBC recruits Chuck LaBella as vice president of talent development, alternative programming. He previously worked on shows including The Celebrity Apprentice, The Last Comic Standing and Rachael Vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off... Thomas Tillman officially grabs the Washington D.C. deputy bureau chief gig at CBS News. He has been working in the position for the past seven months, replacing Jim McGlinchy. Elsewhere at The Eye's D.C. unit, Jenna Gibson leaves FNC to be a producer on CBS This Morning. She'll handle booking duties, a role she performed in her previous job as well...

Facebook hires Bloomberg's Dan Fletcher as managing editor. No one seems to know what exactly he'll be doing at the social network, seeing as it doesn't have an editorial department, but there is a general consensus that Fletcher will create some sort of LinkedIn Today-type of deal... Google loses Vikas Gupta, head of consumer payments... The slow job market in the United States forces to cut about seven percent of its workforce. That is roughly 400 jobs across the globe...
