Chuck Klosterman is the new ethicist at The New York Times Magazine, a gig that is as strange as it is perfect. The move first leaked out on Twitter, was investigated by different outlets, and NYT Mag editor Hugo Lindgren officially announced it on the excellent Sixth Floor blog. The Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs author on his new gig: "This seems like the most interesting job possible. It examines actual problems and asks straightforward questions about how people should or should not live. It directly engages with the world of ideas, and it seems simultaneously objective and subjective." His first column deals with half-sisters, police, and ends with the sentence: "You live next to a compassionate, unreasonable cat thief." NYTM Rock City indeed...

Margaret Hartmann joins NYMag.com's the Daily Intel as night editor. She spent the previous four years at Jezebel. Fashion blog The Cut grabs Christina Han as beauty editor. She had been associate editor at W. Finally, New York loses associate editor Ben Mathis-Lilley, who joins Buzzfeed as senior editor. He started in 2004 as an editorial assistant and rose to overseer of the Approval Matrix... Mat Honan leaves Gizmodo to return to Wired. Tech star wars!... Nicholas Jackson hires former Good Men Project editor Ryan O'Hanlon at Outside... Former FishbowlLA editor Tina Dupuy takes over Soapbox as editor-in-chief. Most recently, she had been managing editor of Crooks and Liars...

Michael Winerip returns to The New York Times where he'll helm the new baby-boomer blog. He had been penning the "On Education" column. Elsewhere at the Times, Wendy Ruderman becomes the police bureau chief. She takes over for Al Baker, who's moved to the education beat. Ruderman leaves the Philadelphia Daily News, calling it "rudderless."... Salon hires Cindy Jeffers as CEO and CTO. She had been technical director at the Huffington Post. She replaces founder David Talbot...

MPA president/CEO Nina Link will step down at the end of the year. She's been in the position for almost 13 years, a tumultuous time in magazinedom. She is the longest-serving president in the organization's history... Manhattan cuts staff. Publisher Leslie Wolfson and associate publisher David Baer are out, with national ad sales head Matthew Carroll stepping into the top role for now... Entertainment Weekly chops three editorial staffer spots... John Moody returns to Fox News as executive editor and EVP. He had been EVP of news editorial at the network for 13 years before departing to run NewsCore. Elsewhere, Michael Clemente gets a promotion from senior vice president of news editorial to EVP... And there are changes at ABC News, Quartz and more...
