The Financial Times Announces Digital Shift; CBS Gets A New Contributor

The Financial Times plans to eliminate 25 positions through buyouts and, if needed, layoffs. Editor Lionel Barber announced the decision in a Monday afternoon memo, writing, "We need to ensure that we are serving a digital platform first, and a newspaper second." The plan is to save more than $2 million a year through 35 buyouts, then hire 10 staffers on the digital side. Resources will also be redistributed, placing less priority on the overnight shift that primarily focused on the paper, and more on the daily upkeep of the website ...
