Sasheer Zamata joins Saturday Night Live as the show's newest cast member. The Upright Citizens Brigade-trained comic beat out the 11 other performers who tried out in front of Lorne Michaels in mid-December. She will debut on January 18. The show's producers had been secretly (and not-so-secretly) searching for a black woman to add to its cast after Kenan Thompson's comments sparked outrage across the Internet...

The Washington Post adds a few faces. Jaime Fuller and Wesley Lowery join as part of the "online strike force," which mostly means contributing to The Fix and Post Politics. Additionally, Amanda Soto is officially a member of the design department... The San Francisco Chronicle taps Kristine Shine as president. She had been chief revenue officer at PopSugar... Charles Schenck is Meredith's newest vice president, joining to head the programmatic sales and strategy division... John Allen jumps to The Boston Globe as associate editor. He had been senior correspondent at the National Catholic Reporter...

Yahoo continues to hire high-level journalists. Daniel Klaidman and Garance Franke-Ruta are joining the site that recently brought on David Pogue, Matt Bai and Katie Couric. Klaidman, who had been at The Daily Beast, is the new deputy editor of Yahoo News. Franke-Ruta, who isn't saying what her position is just yet, comes over from The Atlantic... Zola Books buys, the startup funded by Penguin, Simon & Schuster and Hachette Book Group. Many Bookish employees will stay onboard, although not CEO Ardy Khazaei...

Not so fast with that whole "Ann Curry is leaving" narrative. NBC News denied a report that it was not renewing her contract... CNN gives Christine Romans the co-anchor gig at Early Start. She'll join John Berman on the morning program and will continue as the network's chief business reporter. Additionally, Victor Blackwell and Christi Paul move into the anchor chairs on New Day Weekend... Omar Villafranca gets the call to CBS News, leaving KXAS... Gary Knell is the new head of the National Geographic Society...

Gawker's traffic guru Neetzan Zimmerman will join the social network startup Whisper. The editor of the Internet delivered 98 percent of Gawker's unique visitors in December... xoJane hires Rebecca Carroll as managing editor. The founder previously worked as an editor at outlets including Paper and Quartz poaches Mark DeCambre from the New York Post. He'll cover banks, hedge funds and other global firms... Mashable, which raised $13 million, plans to raise headcount by 50 percent. Tweet out those resumes or something... And there are changes at The Weather Channel, Conde Nast Entertainment and more...
