David Letterman Leaving Late Show; Changes at Self

David Letterman will retire from the Late Show in 2015. Here's part of the statement from CBS Corp. chairman Les Moonves: "For 21 years, David Letterman has graced our Network’s air in late night with wit, gravitas and brilliance unique in the history of our medium. During that time, Dave has given television audiences thousands of hours of comedic entertainment, the sharpest interviews in late night and brilliant moments of candor and perspective around national events." In a sign of the times, former R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills broke the news on his Twitter feed. It's the end of the Late Show as we know it...

Michael Strahan joins Good Morning America. He'll appear on the 7 a.m. hour, although not every day, then host Live with Kelly and Michael at 9 a.m. The former New York Giants star is not a replacement for Josh Elliott, who decamped to NBC Sports earlier in the week... Fox News re-signs America's Newsroom host Bill Hemmer. He has been with the network since 2005... Jan Koeppen takes over as president of Europe and Africa at Fox International Channels. He had been chief operating officer of 21st Century Fox Europe and Asia... Ryan Nerz lands one of the most fun jobs around: chief cannabis correspondent for Fusion TV...

Editor-in-chief Lucy Danziger and publisher Laura McEwen are out at Self. Cosmopolitan executive editor Joyce Chang takes over the EIC spot while a new top person on the business side will be named soon. Keith Kelly hears that Danziger wasn't responding well to the advice handed out by Anna Wintour, the Vogue editor who has taken over as Conde Nast's artistic director... Matt Bean, Entertainment Weekly's new editor, begins bringing in his own people. Neil Janowitz and Chris Rackliffe are assistant managing editor of EW.com and social media editor, respectively. The Los Angeles Times names Joe Bel Bruno editor of Company Town, the paper's Hollywood blog. He had been deputy business editor there. Charles Fleming, who had been overseeing Company Town, moves to the business desk to cover the automotive and green energy beats... The Star-Ledger cuts 167 staffers, including 40 in the newsroom...

PandoDaily makes a host of changes, elevating Paul Carr to editorial director and tapping David Holmes and Michael Carney as East and West Coast editors, respectively. Sarah Lacy will remain editor-in-chief but focus more on business matters, while Adam Penenberg transitions to editor-at-large, with a focus on massive reporting projects...
