If it's Tuesday, then another newspaper chain must be preparing to
axe a healthy percentage of its employees. This week, it's Knight
Ridder, where executives including CEO and nominal heir Tony Ridder
himself have drawn up a plan to lay off staff, cut the benefits of
those who remain, and reduce the page size of the company's papers, all in an attempt to save $150 million a year and make the company more palatable to interested buyers,
