February 28, 2006What's this? A change at the very top of The New Republic without bloodshed? The New York Times is as surprised as we are that Franklin Foer will succeed departing editor Peter Beinart (who'd rather write than edit at this point) without having to mount the sort of bloody coup that has toppled renowned predecessors like Michael Kinsley, Andrew Sullivan, and Michael Kelly. Whether or not one believes that The New Republic still matters (and there are many who don't) the fact remains that the magazine still mints high-profile, highly paid alumni on a regular basis....
